I will be building a PC with an I9-12900k CPU in a couple weeks, but I don't know anything about motherboards.

Here is a tentative parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/qattack/saved/#view=jcwXRB

However, I currently plan on replacing the motherboard (I picked randomly) with a different one. The motherboard below was not contained in the PC Parts Picker list.

The following motherboard was top-ranked in two different lists: https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813144209?item=9SIB2N5HC28582&nm_mc=knc-googleadwords&cm_mmc=knc-googleadwords-_-motherboards - intel-_-msi-_-9SIB2N5HC28582&source=region

Since I'm spending quite a bit already, I thought I may as well shell out an extra $300 for a better motherboard, but I'm not entirely certain exactly what extra benefits this motherboard really gives (and what is hype). I would appreciate any comments about it.

Thank You!

Looks like a Z390 board.

Totally incompatible with a 12900K. CPU will not fit in the socket.

If you want to spend a lot on a board for a 12900K, you need a Z690.

Whether a Z690 is "better" for your purposes is another question entirely.

Thank you, I suspected that it may not have been compatible since it wasn't displaying in PC Parts Picker. Turns out that I typed the wrong CPU in when doing the motherboard search.

As above the Z390 is for 8th gen, totally incompatible. You need Z690, if your going fancy then something like this would be what I'd look at:
