Motherboard and Computer Set Up Question

Hey guys, first post here. Great site.

I'm just checking in, as a first time computer builder, because I'm having issues over motherboard selection.

First, here's everything i've chosen.

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH

Antec 900 Case (On the way)

300GB Western Digital HDD (Reusing current one)

POWERCOLOR PCS+ AX5770 1GBD5-PPG Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card

i5 750 Lynnfield

Windows 7 64 bit OEM

OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Sound is a HUGE issue for me. I've checked all my components, they're rated as quiet. The Antec 900 is "quiet" as well with big fans and adjustable speeds.

Now, on to Motherboard(s). Until today, I was totally sure I was going to buy the P7P55D Asus mobo, specifically this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131404

However, I read in a review that it is obsolete? The mobo I was reccomended to was this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131621, the P7P55D - E PRO.

Is i worth the extra 50? My budget is pretty spent at 800 already. My main purpose is gaming, but nothing too serious like Crysis. I'll be playing things like Heroes of Newerth, Grid, Dirt 2, Just Cause 2 and what not.

Any help is much appreciated.

The links do not work.

Don't depend on reviews. Have you checked to see what motherboards actually are available?

And maybe when the reviewer said "obsolete", he actually may have meant "superseded". I suspect that's because the newer board probable has SATA6 and USB3, and the older board doesn't. If you are not going to use the new features, get the older, less expensive motherboard.

Oh, almost forgot. The 900 does not have a case speaker. I'm pretty sure the motherboard doesn't either. You need one.

Also, because this is your first build, checkout this thread:

The checklist in the first part of the thread may keep you from making common, noobish mistakes. Read it over while you are waiting for your parts.

I have three Antec 900 cases. They are pretty quiet with the fans set on Low. Running them faster did not improve cooling on three overclocked Core2 systems:
GA-EP45-UD3P | Q9550 OC'd to 3.6 GHz (425 MHz X 8.5) C3 stepping :(
GA-EP45-UD3L | Q6600 OC'd to 3.6 GHz (400 MHz X 9) G0 stepping :bounce:
GA-EP35-DS3P | E5200 OC'd to 3.78 GHz (315 MHz X 12)

Good thing too. With all the fans set on High, one of them sounds like a freakin' vacuum cleaner setting on the desk.

@jsc... Here is the OP's motherboard ASUS P7P55D LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard

What I think people are saying it is obsolete is that it doesn't have SATA III or USB 3.0 support like the ASUS P7P55D-E Pro LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard. Also the motherboard isn't good for SLI/Crossfire at x16,x4. You want at least x8,x8, which the ASUS P7P55D-E Pro supplies. If you plan to run dual video cards, it is worth the extra $50.. IMO

If you don't plan on running dual GPU's, I would go with the ASUS P7P55D-E LX LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard for the same price. It gives you a board that is more upgradeable with the newer tech coming out with USB 3.0 and SATA III.

jsc linked a great link for troubleshooting and I would look at this link to help you with your build process... http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/274745-31-step-step-guide-building

Ah, sorry. Here are fixed links.

Current (to be) mobo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131405&cm_re=P7P55D-_-13-131-405-_-Product

The one I was told to get:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131621&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-RSSDailyDeals-_-na-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=3463938&SID=

I realize I didn't elaborate enough. I don't plan on OCing much and dual GPUs increase sound too much so that's not an option. Price is less than 150.

Tecmo, that looks superb. Thanks a ton. I'm going to look into that board more though I wish it had more reviews...
