Since the 980 is on the supported CPU list for that motherboard, you should be fine.
If not, you may just need to contact Gigabyte in case you need a BIOS update.
I imagine they've tested that processor on that board to give it the OK to be on the supported CPU list.

If not, they owe you a deal on a replacement board.
