Hello,
I am thinking of upgrading my motherboard and CPU. I will be keeping my hard drive, ram and power supply as they are fine but i just want to know, is swapping the motherboard just a case of installing it and plugging the hard drive and other components in or will i have to reinstall windows 8 and everything ? I am confused because i thought windows is on the hard drive and how to i set up the drivers for the motherboard ?? From what i have read so far i can see that when changing a motherboard on windows 8 there arent really any problems.
Also my current motherboard is a Gigabyte 78lmt-usb3 with an FX4350 processor
The motherboard i am upgrading to is an MSI H97 GAMING 3 Intel H97 Socket 1150 Motherboard ATX with an intel i5 4670K processor

So i will lose everything on my hardrive then im guessing ? -_- Ah well i need to upgrade so it will be worth it. So when i have swapped the motherboard and plugged everything in, what will appear on screen when i boot up ? will it just ask me for my windows 8 key ad then reinstall and wipe my hard drive ?

Only if you boot to the W8 disk or a USB drive with W8 on it. It may boot to W8 using your hard drive, but probably not, since the mobo drivers on the hard drive will be incompatible with your new one.

A fresh installation of Windows just feels so good - you won't regret it. Just back up your files before installing the new mobo.
