So I have an older gaming PC from about 4 1/2 years ago, I'm slowly starting to replace components as they are getting older and I want the best graphics performance for gaming. I recently purchased an NVIDIA GTX690 and 16GB of RAM in order to start upgrading. However, before I start putting new components into an old build I was thinking about upgrading the motherboard and processor. This is the only area of this where I'm a little foggy as I have no idea if I should update either (I don't want to throw money down the drain). Right now I have an Intel Core i7 CUP 950 @ 3.07 GHZ, 3068 Mhz, 4 Cores and I have an MSI Motherboard X58PRO (MS-7522). So first is it worth me upgrading this components to keep up with the new graphics cards and second what processor/motherboard combo would you recommend?

Your current board/cpu is plenty fast. You won't gain that much by upgrading it. I recommend if you still want to upgrade, you sell the combo first before ordering anything. You may have to ship it somewhere; local craigslist listings tend to move stuff slowly. Ask about half what you originally paid for it, or you won't be able to sell it quickly. I use anandtech's for sale forum, and have had pretty good success moving stuff there.
