I have several servers at a small non-profit company, in-need of some upgrades.
MB - Advantech AIMB-581
I'm not able to find much information on this motherboard at all, being as it's so old. Advantech site has a manual, some INFs, few components drivers and an old 2011 ME updates - but that is about all that's available nowadays.
It's a quirky board. Says it's max of 16 gig ram, 4 per slot (though I've tested thoroughly with more, so far with good results). No UEFI, all legacy. A bunch of other acient offerings listed in bios, definitely very underwhelming but I'm sure fine for its time. LGA 1155 i7 2600 is the newest listed compatible processor, though I'd like to try a spare i7 3770K I have here laying around in it.
These were all windows 7 machines going on that I have since upgraded to Windows 10. Windows 11 won't happen, so 10 LTC is the most I can hope for to extend the life here. What I'm really hoping for, is an option to flash the bios to an upgraded version or some type of custom.
I definitely understand the risks, but in my case I'm hoping the potential rewards will be worth it. Further, I'm going to start on a spare system we have in the shop. All goes well after a month or so, and the benefits justified the labor, I'd likely push this update out to others.
AIMB-581 / any ideas? The custom firmware currently on there is something from the vendor, a vendor that went out of business shortly after we acquired them.
Thank you very much for your thoughts.
