Hey guys,
Well this is my 2nd motherboard to die on me in 3 and a half years. 1st was an Asus P5N-E Sli & 2nd was few days ago a Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3LR. Not sure why my motherboards are dying so quickly. I don't do anything extra to them, I have surge protectors and a decent Antec 1000 watt truepower Quattro PSU.

Am I buying cheap and nasty motherboards or just having bad luck?

I am sure they should last longer than 2 years?

I am thinking of buying a i7 2600k CPU.

Can you guys suggest a decent motherboard (one that I can get in Australia) for around $150-$200 Aussie dollars.

Is this price range going to get me a motherboard that will last more than 2 years or do I have to spend more?

cheers

Thanks guys for finding a link for me :)

Yeah things are expensive in Australia unless you can find the cheap shops or sites.

Is there much difference in terms of lifespan between Asus & Gigabyte?

Is there much difference in terms of lifespan of cheap to expensive motherboards or do I just get more features in more expensive motherboards?

I have had both Asus and Gigabyte boards die earlier then they should!

Also do motherboards have ways to connect a monitor to them without a graphics card these days? It helps when a graphics card dies.

If you have seperate Video card you can disable on board one but you can also enable to support multi monitor...

Yes the more expensive.. support Triple / Quad Video Card ... more E-SATA Port... that kind of features... and you can allways addon by extra card...

Does that ASUS P8Z68-V LX Intel Z68 Socket LGA1155 DDR3 Motherboard run my old nvidia 8800GT (can't afford to upgrade that yet)?

I like the fact that it has Multi-VGA output support : HDMI/DVI/RGB ports.

the other motherboard I'm looking at is:
Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 4xDDR3 HDMI GLAN 2xPCI-E CrossFireX SLI SATA3 RA

So are you saying I can have my main monitor thru my Nvidia card and say a Tv connected via the hdmi port?

That sounds very exciting to be able to do something like that!

Ok now I have become aware of a new problem. I wasn't going to format my C drive and reinstall windows xp pro. I still have some stuff on there to backup and it's a huge hassle to reinstall everything. With my last motherboard install i got Win Xp to work and it was fine till the motherboard died a few days ago.

I contacted a Pc repair guy and he said.....

'Windows does not like it when you change more then 3-4 hardware devices at once and unfortunatly replacing the motherboard and CPU changes about 5-6 hardware devices. This has to do with north bridges, south bridges pci bridges that are all classed as seperate devices. But saying this i will try my best to do your upgrades without having to re-install i can back up all your data before we start.'

So can I just hook up my new asus motherboard, i7 2600k cpu and the rest of my hardware and my old c drive....and boot up my pc like normal?

Ok i installed my new Asus S1155 ATX P8Z68-V LE Motherboard,Intel S1155 Core i7 2600K 3.4GHz Quad Core CPU with Arctic silver 5 thermal paste no problems. I also put a new Optical drive & 1TB sata3 drive in. I booted into the Uefi bios. The optical drive was detected but the New sata drive wasn't. after a frustrating day of trying to get it all working I took it too a Pc reapir guy.

He said the Optical drive wasn't reading, The Sata hard drive wasn't working and my Graphic card was dead.

So I have returned the Optical drive today & I have to send the Sata drive back to Pc Case Gear in Melbourne.

I guess I'll be using the onboard graphic card till I can save for a new Graphic card.
