Motherboard brands and quality.

I have been looking at two motherboards the ASUS ROG STRIX Z270E and the GIGABYTE GA-Z270X-Ultra Gaming. I found the Gigabyte more appealing due to slightly cheaper price. But when I ask my cousin his response honestly did not seem to add up according to him "they are garbage since Asus bought 49% and screwed it over to go asrock if I want a cheaper board." so thought I would ask here to see the over all opinion of the two.

I only build with GIGABYTE and ASUS , VERY GOOD BOARDS , Asrock is decent too.
