Hey, guys. Have had my current setup for around two years now with no issues. Recently I noticed when I come back to my computer after it idles too long(overnight for example) nothing seems to be working. It's not frozen, but no software will work. I'll click to open itunes or my internet browser and it will load for a second and then nothing happens. Ctrl, alt, delete also does nothing. And I can't shut down the computer when this happens unless I hold the power button in. At the bios screen before it continues to boot up, the only thing different that ive noticed is a message saying CMOS fail. Do you think the battery is just dead? Any thoughts? Ps. Everything works fine after restarting the computer, no issues. It's only when it idles for too long.

Solution
The battery is the first place to look for this type of incident. Replace it and see if it resolves your issues.

You could also take the battery out and use a multimeter on it to see if there is a charge. If there is - then your situation may be a bit more dire. Still swap out the battery and test - but it may be that you will need a replacement MB if you can't get the BIOS happy again.
Check the battery if you have a volt meter. You can reset the bios/cmos by taking the battery out with the comp unplugged, for 10 - 15 mins. Then you need to boot into bios and set it all up again starting with setting optimized defaults then the memory with XMP and what ever else needs to be set up.
