Motherboard compatibility Issues

I'm thinking of buying a SSD for an older PC. Will there be any compatibility issues with the board or the SATA cables? Or anything else I'm not thinking of. I'm not terribly familiar with HDD and SSD in general..

The SATA cables are backward compatible. The performance of the SSD could be affected marginally with older SATA motherboards
What specific motherboard are you referring to.

Not sure to be honest with ya. I'd have to look, my buddy gave it to me, he was going to throw it out and I said I could get some use out of it.

If it's marginal, it doesn't matter to me. Unless you think it's possible it could be worse than that?
