I bought a ROG Maximus X Formula a few months ago and plan on getting new RAM for a dual channel setup. I bought the ram assuming it must work.

Motherboard - https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-MAXIMUS-X-FORMULA/
RAM - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074WBVGSQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The ram is dual channel 32gb. The motherboard is dual channel supported.

I looked over the supported document on the motherboard webste and did not see this ram supported. This doesn't make much sense to me because its the only dual channel 32gb @3600 that gskill has. Im wondering if ill be okay getting this ram. I'm guessing that the mobo is so new that they haven't completed the supported list.

Edit: On the document it seems that almost all supported RAM is quad channel, and the only dual channel RAM available is in sticks of four. Again, this confuses me because the motherboard is optimized for dual channel. Why not support 32gb dual channel? (As per the doc)

It just wouldn't make sense to not support dual channel mem on a dual channel mobo.

Solution

They should work, but there is just no guarantee any RAM you buy will work the same as any other. That is why they provide the QVL.
You should not have any problem with that RAM. If you look at the last column in the Qualified Vendors List (QVL) "DIMM socket support (Optional)" it does support 2 DIMM.

Keep in mind setting a memory speed of 3600MHz on this motherboard i considered an overclock.

Memory:
4 x DIMM, Max. 64GB, DDR4 4133(O.C.)/4000(O.C.)/3866(O.C.)/3733(O.C.)/3600(O.C.)/3466(O.C.)/3400(O.C.)/3333(O.C.)/3300(O.C.)/3200(O.C.)/3000(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666(O.C.)/2400(O.C.)/2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory

It would seem that they are all overclocks.
