hi im totally new at this and i have little idea of what im doing so i came for some help....my computer is getting old and i wanted to add new stuff to it and i read alot of stuff here...but i was wondering if my motherboard would be compatible with the processor i want to get (intel pentium D 805). Im not sure of which motherboard i have lol but its the one that comes with a dell dimension 4700... if not, then what would be some recommendations? thanks. oh...and i know this is not the right board or whatever, but while im at it.... the reason i wanted that processor is because ppl say it can be overclocked really well....but im wondering if a stock cooler will be enough for that? k thanks.

Should work fine. Your specs list that your MB will support up to a 800MHz FSB. The CPU that you listed is only 533MHz FSB, so you should be good.

Just make sure you get the LGA775 socket processor, not Socket 478 (I think they made 2 versions).

The 4700 will not take a dual-core CPU. The 4700 has the 915 chipset. The 945 chipset is the first chipset to support the Pentium® D Processor.

Go to the Dell Forum and search got "4700 CPU upgrade" and look at the Intel site and view the chipsets.
