motherboard & cpu upgrade, crashes at startup screen-windows 7

so i got a new processor and new motherboard and i knew it wasn't going to be easy but i cannot figure out what is wrong. if i start it normally it will go until the windows 7 loading screen gets about a third of the way done, freeze and just restart. Ive tried to mess with the BIOS settings but i am still a beginner and have little idea of what i am doing.

my old motherboard and processor:
MB: AAHD2-HY
Processor: amd a6- 3650

New MB & Processor
MB: GIGABYTE 970A-UD39
Processor AMD FX 6350 black edition

Short answer is that a new motherboard requires re-installation of Windows unless the motherboard is identical or nearly identical to the old one.

Reason is that the Windows installation is using hardware drivers which worked for the old board. If you give us more details we can help you decide if you need to buy a new Windows disc or not.

I assume that you did not reinstall your OS after the upgrade?
Go into your BIOS. There should be an option named "Sata Mode" or something similar. Set it to "IDE" instead of "AHCI" (if it is currently set to IDE, change it to AHCI).

If this does not work, can you please list your MB and CPU models? (both the new ones and the old)

I tried the IDE and that had no effect. I edited the original post and it now has my old and new hardware

You are gonna have to load windows from scratch. Going from an AMD socket FM1 board to an AM3+ board will not work plus different manufacturers complicates the switch even more.

I don't have the original OS CD so do I have to go buy a new one or is there another way because I had planned on calling Microsoft to get a new license anyway

Can you boot in safe mode (F8 Before Windows starts loading)? You might be able to get it to boot like this. That could give you a better chance at figuring what's wrong.

But anyway, as the other posters have stated, you really should do a clean install and start from scratch. With a motherboard swap like this, there's a very large amount of things that could go wrong, so it's hard to tell what is the cause of those crash.

Edit (Just saw your last post): If you still have your key/sticker, you should be able to reinstall from any CD (same version of course) and activate it with your key. You don't have to buy another. If your machine was pre-built, you might not be able to reactivate it without phoning Microsoft.

It doesn't work in safe mode either. So that means I'll have to format my hard drive and buy a new OS then, right?

Edit:it was a prebuilt, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and go buy a new OS. I'll have to format my HD to do so,correct? And can I do that from the BIOS menu?

Yeah, you might just be out of luck then. It MIGHT be possible to activate an OEM key (from a prebuilt system) with a retail Windows version, but I'm really not sure. If it is possible, you will most likely have to call Microsoft to do so. When you do reinstall Windows, you will have the option to format and partition your drive and do a clean install (in the advanced options during the installation). There should also be an option to make a copy of your current installation, if you want to recover your files. But I recommend you backup everything you need before installing your OS (if it isn't done yet).

Edit: Oh, and don't forget to set the "Sata Mode" option I asked you to change back to "AHCI" before you start the install.

You can download an ISO of any version of win7 and load it. You will need the activation code after installing the OS.
