Hi Guys,

Just wanting to know how i can fix my motherboard, its an X79-UD5 from Gigabyte. One day (happened couple months ago so i got a new CPU/Mobo now) when i tried to turn on my PC it wouldnt start, i looked through the glass window and saw no light on the manual start button on the motherboard.

I unplugged the power cord and waited a couple moments while pushing the on button on my case to drain whatever energy was left and then re-plugged in the power cable, i saw the motherboard light light up again, but it stayed lit for about 5 seconds then dulled down, i did the same as before but this time it only stayed lit for 3 seconds, then 1 - 2 seconds.

So my guess is one of the Capacitors died, how can i figure out which one? And what can i replace it with? I do have a soldering iron but don't want to try anything without some guidance on a testing method and a proper replacement.

Lets get one thing off the bat, and I mean no offense. There is a huge difference between having a soldering iron and having the ability to repair a motherboard. Repairing a motherboard requires EXTREMELY precise soldiering (that is done by a machine at the factory), you will not be able to do it. You're welcome to try, but I wouldn't risk the rest of my parts with it.

Just to humor this though the 2 ways you can tell if a capacitor is bad is if its bulging outward, or you see a burn mark under it.

If you see that, buy a new motherboard.
