Hello,i would like to know why my friends gigabyte ax370 gaming k5 wont read his corsair vengeance LED 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16 and they always run at 2133 mhz

Solution

Bios updates are important on the Ryzen AM4 platform and finicky regarding DDR4 OC RAM in respect to Timings and Voltage.
Ensure the Bios is up to date to address new DDR4 RAM as they come on to the market for a better chance of getting them to work.

Corsair Vengeance CMU16gx4m2c3200c16R DIMMs are not listed on the current QVL so have not been tested with the MB. There is a good chance they will work but not at their rated speed.
Getting them to work at their rated speed may be difficult until improved Bios releases.
Try slight...
Hi enr13 :)

The Gigabyte AX370 Gaming K5 supports up to 3200Mhz however it also depends on the CPU.

RAM frequency at 3200MHz is considered as OC RAM and if the CPU has an official 2133MHz rating then it would require Bios intervention to Primary Timings and Voltage with no guarantee they will work.

It depends on the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) on the chip. XMP profiles would not be recognized if OC RAM is used.

Also make sure the Bios is up to date and his choice of RAM is listed on the MB QVL.

his cpu is ryzen 7 1700 but we also tried to temper with timings in the bios such as 15 15 15 35 and the voltage..can you suggest any values for me to change so that it runs on at least 2666?because i cant seem to make it work higher than 2133

You wrote, "can you suggest any values for me to change so that it runs on at least 2666?"

If you listed the memory part number or link to it I would know what memory you have. Since I don't know what memory you have, I suggest you read page 24-25 of the motherboard manual and enable an XMP profile.

If XMP settings are not successful, then manually entering System Memory Multiplier, manually setting Memory Timing Mode should be done. You may also need to raise DDR voltage with some memory,

This is the Ram he is using : cmu16gx4m2c3200c16r .So if i enable xmp profile 1 how much would i need to up the DDR voltage ?should i use the suggested timings of the manufacturer as for the ram ?

Try slight increases in Dram voltage up to 1.4V and increase SOC voltage slightly.

There has been some good research at Overclockers.net and a wealth of info on the gupsterg thread.

I also found a slight OC on BCLK was beneficial however my Ryzen 7 is the 1800x.
I did manage to reach 2933MHz after much trial and error and that was the best I could get however that frequency was lost each time I shut the system down. There is still a cold boot bug that many are experiencing.
I tried all D.O.C.P settings to no avail however I finally achieved stability.
It's very much trial and error and I changed DIMM kits a few times.

Good Luck
