Hello,

I'm getting a 7700k and need a mobo at the same time. I'd like to have an Asus but don't know which would be better for me. z170 or z270 and which variant.

I'd be glad reading any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Z170 requires a bios update for kaby lake chips, so you would need a skylake chip on hand to update the bios to support kaby lake.

Z270 would be the better choice to assure compatibility. I just recently upgraded to a 7700k and asus strix Z270F mobo. It has worked great so far I really like the bios and fan control software, very easy and intuitive to use. I have my memory running at 3000mhz cl15 without issue, and have overcloked the 7700k to 5ghz without issue. Seems like a great board so far. I personally couldn't justify the money for a maximus or hero board, I dont see what you are paying for. I also considered the gigabyte Z270 k7 in the 200 dollar price range, that looks like a good board as well with admittedly more features...

What do you think about this setup?

Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 DIMM PC19200/2400MHz CL14 2x8GB

Asus ROG Strix H270F Gaming ATX, Socket 1151, Intel H270

Intel Core i7 7700K 4,2GHz Socket 1151 Box without Cooler

Well if you want to overclock you will need a Z270 motherboard. If you don't plan to overclock I would stick with the H270 motherboard you have there and save some money and go for the i7 7700 non k model. Other that it looks fine. What do you plan to use for a power supply?

I got a 750W cooler master supply. And got a gtx 980. What kind of problem supply can cause?
