What is a good motherboard for i7 8700K? First time posting, don't really know how this works.

A z370 or a z390 would work perfectly. Just make sure to install motherboard drivers and update your bios or else you will get a safe mode boot error. Hope this helps.

Those are really good thanks, but how do i know if my ram will be compatible?
It has to be ddr4 ram. I’d go for 3000mhz ram which is cheaper than before nowadays. DDR3 or DDR2 and DDR1 will not work with any of those boards. The notches are in different positions.

I am not building a pc but more like upgrading it, i have ddr4 2400MHz RAM, will it work good enough or do i need to upgrade it aswell?

You can also consider a B360. Z370 and Z390 should be compatible out of the box without updating BIOS. But always check on the manufacturers site.
You'll probably be fine on the RAM side. If in doubt, check the manufacturers QVL which will be on the motherboards support page. But if the RAM isn't on there, it doesn't mean it isn't supported - the list of available RAM is simply too big for a QVL to be updated to match.
