Hello. I'm setting up new desktop with i7 6700 and I have some problems with motherboard for it (120-160$). I would like to buy RAM with more than 2133 MHz, so I should choose mobo with Z170 chipset. But I'm curious, if it's capable of overclocking locked processor? Or maybe I should get 2133 MHz RAM and get AsRock H170 Fatal1ty Gaming K4/Hyper or AsRock B150 Fatal1ty Gaming K4/Hyper?
Or just give up overclocking locked procesor...

Solution
A CPU cooler woudl only be merited if you find the stock cooler too loud(it's not).
Go with the MX300. Cheaper, better, larger capacity etc.
For that kind of cash you should be getting a G-Sync monitor. I consider that a must.
I've also put in a PSU that has an excellent price these days.

Either get a K series processor, z170 MB and fast ram, or get the Xeon linked below. It's equivalkent to an i7 6700 but cheaper.
Honestly, i would renounce overclockign and get teh Xeon and use the money save to get a better GPU, cuz that's where it's at if you game.

If it's not worth the money, I'll just stay with locked version :) Regular AsRock B150 Fatal1ty Gaming K4 will be ok? Or cheaper/better suggestions (I like the design of both, mentioned and Asus B150 PRO Gaming). I have Crucial 250GB 2,5'' SATA SSD and I want to buy GTX 1070 in the future.

Those asrocks don't have m.2 slots. you want to have that in your build forward thinking. SO get the asus or the GB i put in the build.
Also, the 1070 is the better GPU i was thinking when i said that's where the money should go so.. yeah :)

A m.2 slot on the board means nothing to your average user unless your doing a ton of file transfers, using it as a scratch drive, or just running benchmarks their no noticeable difference ( 0.4 sec quicker boot time)
What's up with the way overpriced monitor?

with asrock z170 u can oc every non-k skylake even with latest bios, with other brands u must get an specific bios from web
i suggest to get the cheaper z170 instead h170/b150 Hyper series(then arent cheap) even if they allow to oc the non-k cpu u cant oc ddr4, while gaming with 3000/3200(max) ddr4 u can get very strong performance increase with some game and they are pretty cheap right now

Please provide a source that verifies your statement about OCing non-K CPU on the latest BIOS with Asrock MBs.

well not all asrock z170 can oc non-k cpu with latest bios
just the one with external clock generator like most extreme series, k6(i have this one for my i7 6700) and some others(just look for "Supports ASRock Hyper BCLK Engine" under cpu specification)

the microcode released by intel at start of this year to prevent non-k skylake oc just prohibit the internal clock generator(from PCH) to go above 100Mhz with non-k cpu ... its the only way for skylake architecture
but asrock use on some z170 motherboards an external clock generator by default, even before they discovered the chance to overclock non-k cpu, so they can bypass easy the intel microcode
asrock b150/h170 hyper series just include that external clock generator to allow overclock non-k cpu or even the k cpu .... but only by increase blck frequency

just search "external clock generator" on google if u dont trust me .....

I heard, that ASRock could overclock non-k processors, but Intel was mad and they updated bios so you could not do it anymore :) But you still can downgrade bios.
