Question Motherboard front panel header issues. Power/reset pins do nothing.

Hello friends,
I have an ASUS Maximus hero x with a seemingly non functional power and reset header. Shorting the power connectors as well as the reset headers do nothing.
The board’s “START” button works to turn on the computer though.
I assume I broke the headers somehow, and was wondering if anyone knows good workarounds?
The gut instinct is to de solder the start button and wire the case power button to it, but I have no idea if something like this is possible. Does anyone know how these buttons work, and if it could be as simple of a fix as the above method?
any other ideas? I have access to a multimeter and could learn to use it for whatever task would be needed.

I would personally send it back for service. 300 Series chipset should have at least a year's warranty.
