Hello, I recently ordered a gaming PC with the motherboard Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO AM4 and the CPU AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 3.9Ghz AM4. pcpartpicker states about it:
  • Warning! Some AMD B450 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Matisse CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.
  • Note: The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated with a PCIe-based M.2 drive, two SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports are disabled.
And another person commented that I'll need a 570X motherboard to run the processor. Is it true or since I've already made the order, I should be fine and the PC will run with no performance issues?

300 and 400 series can run Zen2 with a bios update with some manufacture exceptions such as the brand MSI re-releasing B450 as the MAX series already having the bios update. Other brands of 300/400 series would require an bios update using a 1st or 2nd gen processor to do so. Knowing if the motherboard's bios is updated is near impossible to know.

You'll get no display if your motherboard's bios version does not support the 3800x. Instead of assembling your PC and wasting efforts and thermal paste, i suggest taking the motherboard straight to a PC store where they can check and if necessary update bios for you using a 1st or 2nd gen Ryzen cpu which they should have in their servicing department.

Gigabyte B450 doesn't have the best vrm in B450 motherboard
Still usable but you'll be surprised how hot those processor can achieve in full load without proper vrm and cooling solution such air cooling or water cooling
For warning, make sure your motherboard on the latest bios update otherwise it'll not boot.
M.2 slot if using it'll disable 2 sata ports

Which Motherboard should I go for with the Ryzen 3800X to ensure no issues whatsoever?

The MSI B450 Tomahawk Max is a excellent board. The Max means it comes with BIOS that is 3000 ready and the VRM’s are about the best of any B450, better than some cheap X570’s. I’ve seen benchmarks of this board running a 3950X as well as a good X570. I use this board myself with a 3700X. You will still loose 2 SATA ports if you use an M.2 Drive.

Which should I go for if I don't want to lose 2 SATA ports? Here is my full spec list:

Vrms on the MSI is very good and so is Gigabyte's Aorus line of motherboards. Asus's Prime series is good also but imo Giagbyte if going for x570 would be my choice. Dark Rock Pro 4 is an excellent cooler, something more beefier and more fans keeping your cpu cooler and more efficient turbo'ing as a result. The cooler you had might be ok albeit would rather be certain than wonder a cooler is going to be good enough which the DRP4 certainly is.

Go with the X570 above

Thank you guys. I'll call the store now. Hopefully it will be ok to replace the motherboard as I only ordered the PC yesterday. From the 570X that you can see here, which one from the list is ideal? https://ksp.co.il/index.php?select=...maxprice=0&intersect=&rintersect=&store_real=

Go with the Asus Crosshair VIII if you can afford it. Searching between this and the Gigabyte Aorus Pro, there may be compatibility issues i wasn't aware of with the Dark Rock Pro4 cooler and Gigabyte if you went with this cooler. Second opinions appreciated.

I'm afraid it's way above my budget. Any 570X from the bottom of that list?

Gigabyte Aorus pro is fine, just need to be careful which cooler you get. Your original cooler will probably be fine.

I guess I'll tell them then the Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO AM4, AMD X570, DDR4, 3xPCI-E, HDMI with the MSI Core Frozr. Is the 2 disabled SATA ports still an issue?

Some motherboards disable Sata ports using an Nvme PCIe based SSD but is more common for other motherboards to limit Sata ports if an M2 Sata based SSD is used instead of an Nvme PCIe drive to shut down 2 Sata ports to combine bandwidth to satisfy that type of SSD. Should be fine with the Aorus since your SSD is Nvme based using the PCIe bus so no Sata ports should be disabled.

I don't see anywhere in the specifications or manual stating Sata ports are disabled if were to use an Nvme PCIe SSD. You should be fine. Other opinions on this matter are welcomed.
