I was wondering if this "MSI 970A-G43 ATX AM3+ Motherboard" was compatible with "MSI GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card."

The mobo says it has Crossfire Support, but no SLI support and the gpu says the opposite. Will this system work at all?

Also I am looking for general pointers about this setup.

Thank you in advance!

Solution
Yes it will work if you plan on only using a single gpu. However, you cannot add a second GTX 660 for SLI.
Here's what I would do for a build:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($119.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Biostar TA970 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($64.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Crucial M500 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($69.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($57.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Club 3D Radeon R9 270X 2GB Video...

you need to select a good pwoer supply.

should run fine.

yes it will. because the motherboard supporting cfx doesn't conflict with sli support. nvidia requires two pcie x16 slot running at x8 speed for sli but amd 970 chipset only allows up to x16+x4 mode. the gfx card support sli i.e. in a motherboard with two pcie x16 slots running at x8 mode.

ram sould be ddr3 1600 minimum (fx is specced to run with ddr3 1866).
case and cooler needed. like cm hyper 212 evo cooler and corsair 200r case.

-Better quality motherboard. The VRM heatsinks on the G43 are horrible and tend to cause the VRMs to overheat.
-Faster ram at the same price.
-Stronger GPU.
