hi all
i m using asus F2A85-M LE motherboard for amd fx 8150 processor. i want to buy a new graphic card so i lokking for gtx 970. does this graphic card has any compatibility issues with motherboard? or else i have to change motherboard for the sake of graphic card!?

Solution
There are no compabilty issues between standard mainboards and graphics cards. No issues there. However your CPU will bottleneck the 970. You can get the 970 now, and upgrade your CPU later to maximize the performance of the GPU. Before you buy the card though, what power supply do you have? It's important to know, cause if it's not good enough, you might damage other components in your system.

thanks for your reply :) i m having coolermaster 650 watts powersupply unit. can you suggest me any better motherboard so i can clear bottle neck issue.

Any mobo that has a PCI-e x16 slot will support any graphics card irrespective of memory type. As for your mobo it has a PCI-e x16 slot, so it is supported.

Your processor is limiting the performance. You can try overclocking but you'll need a decent aftermarket cooler for it. If you can, switch to Intel. Which model is that PSU?

That PSU should be good enough. The bottleneck comes from your CPU. If you upgrade you CPU you will need to upgrade your motherboard as well. You have some options:

You can wait for AMDs new CPUs to release later this year. They probably will have good performance per dollar. There are no prices confirmed yet, so I can't tell how much they would cost.

You could upgrade to a skylake i5 right now, and get the 1060 or the r9-480 once they come out later this year. They will cost around 200$ have performance similar to the GTX 980. The i5 6500 with motherboard and ram would cost around 300$.

You could also upgrade to an fx 8350 right now, and keep your current motherboard. That would cost you around 150$. However that platfom is pretty much dead, you would have to upgrade you motherboard later anyway. You either do it now or later.

Your motherboard already has a PCI-e 3.0 x16 slot. It's just that your CPU will hold the 970 back because the fx 8150 is not good enough. You can upgrade to the 970 any time. Just know that it will not be performing as good as it could because of your CPU.

so you mean i need to upgrade my processor rather than my motherboard to increase the performance of gtx 970?

Yes. With your current CPU, you won't be able to let the 970 reach it's maximal performance. You could get the 970 and just upgrade you CPU once you have the money to do so. In my comment above, I mentioned a few options.

The cheapest option would be to go with an i5 6500 and a cheap h110 chipset motherboard with 8gb ram.: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HFwwBm

You could spend more and go with an i5 6600k and a z170 chipset mainboard with 8 or 16 gb of ram: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WBpcXL

You could also wait until later this year and get one of AMDs new CPUs. There haven't been any anouncements regarding the price, so i can't tell you how much it would cost.
