I've found various posts that say that heatpipes when turned upside down can heat instead of cool. I'm fairly sure that the same problem would exists with a flipped Striker Extreme, as there is a heat pipe; however, I was wondering if there was a way to do SOMETHING to neutralize the issue?

Most high quality heatpipes use wicking instead of liquid as their cooling medium. With wicking it matters not whether or not the board is upside down.
Some ASUS boards use liquid but I think their more recent high end boards are just fine.
