So I bought a combo deal thru Newegg. I made sure I was grounded the whole way and when I put everything together I got a bad code. I'm using g an asus ranger viii motherboard and I got code 99. I did some research and was told to benchtest it w/o the cooler or gpu attached. Just ram, cpu, and power connected. Same thing. PUT it back into the case I connected everything but the gpu. Code 99. Did a flash bios update per asus instructons. Got a all good code. So I put the gpu in. Installed the power to it and turned it on..... got a code 99 error. Took out the gpu and still code 99. took out the batttery on the motherboard then put it back in and re did the bios and install and still 99. Any saving this thing or is the motherboard dead? Thanks for any help!!!

code 99 is a very complicated issue and cannot be pin pointed so easily...either ur mobo is broke or one of the basic peripherals, like ram or cpu is not initializing...i wud rule out the ram as i m sure u must have tested with one stick, interchanging the sticks and slots...hence we are left with mobo and cpu...psu can be a factor too if it is not generating enuf on 12v...but this is rarely the case...
unfortunately there is no specific test for mobo/cpu without trying substitutes...if u can do that, well and gud...else u might have to consider rma...
also next time pls post ur full specs...

I did try with 1 stick of ram and all good as well. I'm running an asus rog maximus ranger viii MB. Intel Skylark 6700k processor 16 gb ddr4 ram (not sure the brand but it matches) gigabyte 1080 gtx graphics card

well...change the board...check with the cpu...if u still get a code 99, then change the cpu...if u still get code 99, then it can be investigated further...but if u want to save all that time and hit the source directly, the best thing to do wud be to go to a professional shop in ur vicinity...ask them to test it out with substitutes...ideally they wont charge to just test the board...but u ll get the idea...
