Motherboard light stays on but once press power button fans spin for a sec and nothing happens

Brand new PC build but not turning on. When I turn the power switch on the cpu fan and the other two fans also the power supply fan spin for one second that's it no display on monitor either.
Specs
i5 intel 4670k
Asus z87A
Corsair xms3 8gb stick in the second slot
Corsair cx500
Kingston ssdnow 120gb

Try testing the board outside the case for ruling out a short. Make sure that both 24 and 8 pin power cables are properly connected.
