Motherboard Max Ram... per slot?

Hi I'm looking to upgrade RAM.
The motherboard (M4N68T-M LE V2) specs says:

2 x DIMM, Max. 8GB, DDR3 1800(O.C.)/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 Hz ECC, Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory
Dual Channel Memory Architecture

Is that max 8GB per slot? Or the total that the motherboard can handle?

Any other information that is worth knowing, from the information they've given? Is sticking to 1333 the best plan?

Thanks!

Hello again.
Could you possibly double check this for me?
Only because, I have found a couple of websites that seem to contradict your kind information.

The 'Crucial' Ram checker website says: Max Unbuffered DDR3 SDRAM:16GB (although I don't know how reliable this website is meant to be)
http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/compatible-upgrade-for/ASUS/m4n68t-m-le-v2

And the qualified vendors list seems to show 8GB and 2x4gGB as seperate options (suggesting one slot can take 8 gig) and also it gives one 16GB option:
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socketAM3/M4N68T-M_V2/M4N68T_Series_Memory_report_160427.pdf

Many thanks

I do see some indications that it MIGHT support higher capacity modules per slot, possibly due to BIOS updates since the board was first released, but I do NOT see that that information has been changed on the product specifications so you can certainly try it but don't be surprised or get butt hurt if they don't work. Most of the 8GB listings on that updated memory compatibility list show 2 x4GB next to 8GB, and the ones that do not MIGHT just have been a lack of adding that 2 x4gb information. They also might not.

I'd probably contact ASUS directly for absoute clarification before purchasing any memory, just to be sure.
