Motherboard memory slots

Hi

I was wondering if it is worth having 4 memory slots on the motherboard or if 2 is ok. I only plan on using 2 memory modules but is it worth it to have more slots. Are there any advantages to having 4 over 2 slots even if their not all used.

Also could someone explain what dual channel memory configuration is

If you are happy with only 2, then you don't need 4. The 4 would just make a memory upgrade easier - because you can just add more memory and not have to replace what you already have,
