First time builder here and I had everything almost ready to go when I noticed that I was plugged into my mobo hdmi and not into my graphics card hdmi. I checked through device manager to see if it was listed, but it wasn't, only the onboard was. I turned off my computer and switched to the graphics card (in PCIe Express 3.0 x16 - PCI Bus 1), but nothing came up on my screen. There's power running to it because I can see my fan spinning. I switched back to my mobo and my card still wasn't detected.
I tried installing drivers for the card from the HIS disk, but it looked like it kept skipping the install step and going straight for finish where it gave me some warnings and the ability to view log. I view log (after connecting to the Internet because I couldn't view it otherwise) and it said everything was fine and nothing was listed under errors.
I go into bios and set it to PEG. I try the card again and still nothing. I switch back to my mobo to see if I missed anything in bios, but nothing. I Che led device manager again, but still nothing.
I decided to try the card in the second PCIe Express 3.0 x16 which is the PCI bus 2 (has half the contacts of the first one and the third has half of second (this one) - does this mean anything? I assume it has something to do with a second card). I turn it on and it works. I check bios and its on auto instead of PEG where I left it. I check device manager and its listed under standard vga graphics adapter (I guess it changes after I install the drivers?). Cool, it seems like the vid card is working.
I switch the card back to the PCI bus 1, but it's back to nothing. My screen just goes into power save mode which tells me there is no signal from the card (like what it's been doing). I switch to the mobo and turned off the internal graphics this time(checked for a while on google and people said that that might be the problem). Well that must have been a mistake because after I restarted my computer, the mobo peripherals stopped working (HDMI, vga, USB, and I'm assuming etc.). Now I don't even have a picture from both the mobo or the card (monitor goes into power save mode).
Now I switch my vid card back to PCI Bus 2 to get a picture so I can enter bios. I switch back the onboard graphics to auto again (default), save, and reset again. I again try my mobo hdmi/vga and still nothing. I switch my vid card back to PCI Bus 1, but still nothing.
At this point I'm pretty mad, but I decide to clear CMOS to reset my bios just in case I accidentally hit something (I didn't, but just in case). Turned it on again, but nothing.
Done.
That was all last night. Today I thought about trying it once more before concluding that it was a bad mobo. I turn it on and, what do you know, it works. Sends me to a load optimized default page because I reset bios. I load up windows and check device manager, but still nothing.
Last night a friend recommended that I uninstall drivers for my card. So I tried doing that today. The only problem was that the disk said there was nothing to uninstall (just like I thought from earlier). I tried reinstalling and it would the same steps as when I initially installed along with the warning of errors without there being errors (forgot to mention that I tried getting the most recent drivers from their website). The weird thing is is that it tells me I'm up-to-date.
Tried the card again, but nothing.
I need help. I'm new, but I didn't think it was this hard to get a vid card to work properly. Maybe I'm doing it wrong and it's in the wrong spot or it's a bad mobo or something. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.
