Motherboard Not Working?

Hello TH,

I was doing my monthly cleanup on my PC, removed CPU Fan/cooler, applied new thermal paste, and now my PC wont ''start''.

The GPU+GPUfan is working, CPU fan is spinning everything else is powered up, so is the green light which indicates PSU working, but still I do not get a signal on my monitor.

I can see a red light blinking (twice) on my motherboard, it's near the memOK. I have pressed the memOK and it didnt help anything, didnt even restart, it just made a loud noise whenever pressing in the button. I've also tried to start without RAM, I do not get any beeps, nothing. Removed GPU and connected through internal VGA, still no signal.

My keyboard gets a signal, but not my mouse.

Any ideas?

It could be a lot of things; I do a weekly clean-up on mine, but nothing that in-depth. I wouldn't change thermal paste that often (if you are). The first thing to do would be to double check everything you took apart, reassembling if necessary. Quick things to check; making sure your power (if removed) was all plugged back in, especially the power for the CPU and secondary power for the GPU if it has one. Make sure everything is properly seated. Also, make sure your CPU heat sink is fully seated and secure on the processor. Did you remove the processor during the process? If so, you may want to make sure you didn't bend any pins during reassembly.

Interesting note from ASUS (I'm guessing you have an ASUS motherboard): Note: Blinking of DRAM LED does not indicate there is an error.

I also see where some people hold the button down for a few seconds and the motherboard works again...something else to try.

Hey thanks for replying!

I don't change thermal paste that often haha it just so happens to be done on this particular cleanup. Everything is plugged back in like it's supposed to. I do noticed a little bit of a scratch on top of the CPU, it's really little. The heatsink is what got me frustrated, it's a really outdated method and was a pain in the ass (excuse my words) to put back into, perhaps that scratch got there because of reassemlying the heatsink? But it's very little though.

The problem accured after the whole CPU cleanup process. So the only logical thing is that it's related to that? I dont know.

P.S. I even started the mobo without a CPU cooler to see if CPU is working, it's getting really hot so I think it works lol?
Yes I have an Asus mobo

Which button do you mean exactly?
