Motherboard or RAM issue ?

Hi guys,

I recently upgraded from 8gb to 16gb or RAM - adding another single stick of DDR3 RAM 8gb.

Now I have a strange issue and I believe it is motherboard related although I could be wrong.

Everything worked fine with 8gb but once I add another 8gb these errors occured -

- Speakers stopped working, drivers crashed once. Reinstalled and still didnt work
- Windows update error and could not update.

So I knew it was related to the memory upgrade as that's the only change I made.

So I ran PC check, memtest (overnight 12 passes) without any errors.
I can still play games without any lag and according to task manager memory usage is low.

I remove the additional RAM module and everything works fine once again.

Is it possible the RAM is faulty even if it passes the Tests? Or alternatively faulty DIMM slot on the Motherboard. Wondering if anyone has come across this ?

Most likely those two Ram have different Configuration. Means different Bus Speed, Latency, Voltage.

I have tried the stick on its own whilst removing the original and it runs fine..

Odd situation...tried moving around sticks to other slots? Tried updating the firmware for your motherboard. This has been known to iron out RAM bugs as well. May want to even add a small amount of voltage to see if that helps. For that matter, what motherboard and RAM modules are you using?
