Motherboard - PSU Compatibility Question

Solution
Yes. Back in the day 20 pin was standard. Then they come out with 24 pin to provide more power for the newer mobos. During this time the 24 pin use to be able to be broken into two parts, to allow it to have 4 pins removed to convert it to a 20 pin for older mobos or to split the power, 20 pin to mobo power and 4 pin to mobo cpu power etc...

Now the standard is 24 pin.

Solution
The EATX standard was originally used for server power supplies because of their higher power consumption. EATX introduced both the 24-pin baseboard connector and the 8-pin CPU power connector.

The ATX12V standard had the 20-pin baseboard connector and 4-pin CPU power connector.

Both standards have now been merged.
