Motherboard RAM slots

Hey guys.

So I'm gonna upgrade my ram soon but my cpu cooler is so big that I only have 2 slots for memory.
One slot is already occupied by my current memory stick which is on the black color slot and the other slot which is the only one I can install the new stick is white colored.

If I put the new ram stick in the white slot, will it still work well with the other ram stick which is in the black slot?

My motherboard is the GA-970A-UD3P and the ram is the Corsair Vengeance 4GB 1600MHZ

What can dual channel give me as a advantage? Will they run better and give better performance?

Dual channel basically makes two sticks of RAM placed in the corresponding slots (of the same color on your motherboard) run faster, but it's not necessary. As I said, the two sticks will run independantly.
