I know there's a lot of these threads out there. There are so many options and it's been awhile since I've built a PC.

I'll be getting an Intel chip, ram is cheap so I'm thinking 32GB of DDR4, solid state drive, GTX 1080 is the general outline. I'd like to keep the system as quiet as possible and I've heard ASUS has some good fan control stuff but maybe there's third party software that can do the same.

Most likely, I will not overclock but having the option would be nice. I don't plan on having an SLI setup, but again have the option would be nice.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Don't exactly have a set budget, I think under $250 is ideal.

You're looking at Z170 motherboards mainly. They are overclockable if you...

Their no reason to spend more money, for the system to have low noise you need to buy a good quiet case (140mm fans at the least), good power supply with a bit of overkill and a good air cooler not water. That will put you down to the video card being the loudest part of your PC.
Unless your running work related programs their 100% no reason to get over 16GB of memory more than you can uses does nothing for the performance of the PC. (some video editing does not count as work related unless your making money from it then upgrading to a 6 core processor would make more since than a 4 core if you need 32GB of memory.
Example build the extra fan gets mounted in the front blowing in, ready to overclock, quiet, can run SLI if needed, note the overkill on the power supply. About as quiet as you can get. If it's just for gaming then a i5 6600K would work fine if your streaming and editing then keep the i7. You could even add a 500GB SSD of the same brand for games but not really needed. If your not gaming then still the same build. It always helps to list what the PC will be used for and the monitor resolution. The GTX 1080 is really only needed if your running a 2K/2K+ monitor resolution or specific work programs that can use GPU acceleration.

You're looking at Z170 motherboards mainly. They are overclockable if you ever decide to. They run the most current 6th generation Intel Skylake 6xxx cpus, as well as the DDR4 RAM. Motherboards at this level should have at least the ALC 1150 audio codec, support SLI and have good overall user reviews. Generally speaking, Gigabyte, ASRock, and MSI make the best board in you price range. Find the best deal (maybe a combo deal) on one of the boards below that fits your budget and your color preference.
