Question Motherboard showing no sign of life

I recently got a Asrock B450M pro4 motherboard.
I do not have a processor yet but i wanted to test the board anyways.
When i hook it up to my PSU (which is brand new) and press the power button it does not do anything. No lights or spinning fans, not even for a split second.
I made sure to connect everything correctly, and i tested the psu on another computer. Worked perfectly fine.
Is it normal for a motherboard to show no signs of life until a processor is put in, or is this a faulty motherboard?

More than likely the motherboard cant detect the cpu so auto powers it self off, this is a safety feature, but i would test with a cpu before trashing the motherboard

Is it possible to check if my motherboard is still intact without a cpu?

I agree with LiquidEternity, this is highly likely that your motherboard was made to take into account this case (booting without a cpu) and i seriously doubt that this could make any damage.

You could maybe find some remarks about this in your motheboard's manual. It never hurts to read it a bit before trying some half-baked plan !
