[SOLVED] Motherboard shows no signs of life, seller claims a CPU incompatibility

So i recently bought this asrock h67m (cuz it was a great deal). when i tested it with a i3 3240, 1gb of ddr3 ram, intel's stock cooler and a PSU that i know works, the fans don't turn, the cpu does not heat up and the beeper doesn't beep

i then asked the seller, he then asked me to get another cpu to test it with, he claimed that he has tested it with the i5 2500 before shipping.

my question is: is it possible for a motherboard to show no signs of life due to a incompatible cpu?

Yes, the H67 chipset is older than the i3-3240 and might require a BIOS update prior to using it. H77 would be the equivalent 3rd gen chipset.

Looks like you need the latest P2.10 to make it work, so you'll need an older processor to do that. If you can, take it to a shop or find someone willing to lend you a CPU.

i was going to get the celeron G540 for $3, just wanted to make sure that it had a chance to work. didn't want to get an extra cpu just for it to do nothing.

while you're here, could you tell me how i'd go about flashing this motherboard's bios?

Download the BIOS file to a FAT32 formatted USB stick. Get into the BIOS, and there should be a flash BIOS option or flash utility.

Might vary from this a little since it is older, but the basic steps are the same.

Hey, sorry to bother you again, but i got one more question, does an incompatible mobo bios for a cpu cause the motherboard to like not receive power at all from the psu?

No, the board would still power, fans would spin and the like. Just wouldn't POST.
