motherboard spec. O.C. 2800 can I install 3000mhz?

my friends mobo. Gigabyte GA-X99M-Gaming 5
the spec. on the website only wrote O.C. 2800
and the shop that he ordered for Kingston HyperX Predator DDR4-2800 C14 32GB is out of stock.
the shop offering him for HyperX Predator DDR4-3000 C15 32GB for same price.

should my friend go for that 3000mhz?
what will happen if we install it on that mobo?

what will happen if we install it on that mobo? - It will fail to run at 3000 and so will revert to 1866 (the default for X99)
