Hey guys I'm new here, I recently built a gaming pc for the first time, everything worked great for a few hours after installing windows, updating all the drivers, installing Steam etc. Then all of a sudden my pc randomly shuts off like flipping a light switch and wouldn't turn back on.

I checked the psu and motherboard with a multimeter and turns out my motherboards fried, so I've asked for a replacement from eBuyer saying its faulty. What caused this to happen? I'm quite concerned since it could happen again with the replacement mobo.

Here are the pc parts:
CPU: i5 4690k
PSU: Evga 600w Bronze
MOBO: MSI z97 PC Mate
GPU: Asus strix gtx 970
RAM: HyperX Fury 8gb (2x4)
HDD: WD 1tb

Also, would my other components (cpu, gpu, ram) be affected by this?

How were you able to confirm your motherboard fault?

Try resetting the CMOS.

Have you plugged in CPU and main 24pin ATX power correctly?

Make sure your standoffs are installed correctly and aren't shorting out anything on the board. Also check if you see any lights on the board then blink when you power on the system.

Hi, thanks for answering. As I stated earlier, I checked the PSU and MOBO with a multimeter. PSU was fine whereas the motherboard only had about 0.5 volts. No lights, beeps or anything.
