Current PC Gateway LX6810-01
Parts to transfer from this old one to new motherboard:
HD: Seagate 2TB, SATA6, 7200rpm
Vid: MSI R7 260X 2GB
I control the purse strings in our house and my husband has always wanted to make his own gaming computer but I've always said we can hold off until well.... later. I want to get him started and get a motherboard for him for Christmas. I can spend $100-$170ish. I am not sure if that is reasonable but I thought I'd see what everyone here suggests. His hard drive is new and the graphics card I think is like a year old so was hoping to get those into the new computer. I think the graphics card is for AMD so that is what I'd need with the motherboard. I only half know what I am talking about here
His computer now has had the power supply replaced like twice and it overheats a lot. I am certainly looking for an improvement on that one. I wish I could add more to what he games he plays but I'm not into gaming much. I know he has the new Fallout for his computer and her plays stuff where you control worlds and stuff. He doesn't play the first person shooter games much anymore. And of course Star Trek games. Not sure if you need that info to form your suggestions.
We have windows 7 on disk if we could still get away with using that but if not I will have to give up and get a newer operating system for the new build.
I think I've given all the info I can think of. Any suggestions? I am not quite sure how to ensure that whatever I pick is compatible with the video card and hard drive which had me quite stuck.
Thank You!!
And yes some might give the suggestion to just give him the money and let him pick one because most would be quite picky about it but honestly he would take forever trying to decide and by then I would have spent the money on bills So this way he will be surprised and won't have to agonize over the decision. If I really screw up he could send it back.
