I want to u/g my m/b and processor. Financial restrictions apply, so I was thinking of getting an AMD Athlon 1 - 1.2GHZ, but I'd like to go faster later. So, can anyone suggest a reliable and functional M/B that will provide a decent upgrade path. I'd prefer 266 FSB, don't need RAID or SCSI, prefer SD-Ram, and as many PCI slots as possible. AGP Pro support would be great (or up to 4x) and either decent on-board sound or possibly an ISA slot (I have a legacy AWE32 Soundblaster!)

As I'm in Australia, our most commonly available brands are ASUS, ABIT, EPOX, Gigabyte etc.

Any help would e most appreciated.

The Asus A7A266 is reasonably priced, accepts both DDR and SDRAM, is available with reasonble onboard sound, and is compatable with every PCI device. It has none of the configuration issues or data loss associated with VIA equiped board, such as the slightly faster A7M266.
