Question Motherboard swap

Hello, I have some questions.

firstly, I think I should start off by describing the issue. My PC has failed to post and boot. I have an MSI Z87I MSx7851 VER 1.1 motherboard. I opened up my PC to find droplets of liquid dripping from the cooler fans onto the board. I’m not entirely sure what the liquid is from as I’m pretty certain the cooler isn’t leaking.

Anyway, by failing to boot and post I mean that I try to turn the PC on, the lights from the GPU, Cooler and hard drive activity light on the case all light up and all the fans start as normal, after <1 second the PC shuts itself back off (this was before I found the liquid) so i wiped up all the liquid from inside the system. But as you can probably imagine, it didn’t fix anything, unfortunately… It’s still just on and straight back off again.

But the real question here is, since the parts are now obsolete, being the board and CPU and hard to come by. If I were to swap out the motherboard, for which I think is the same type other than the board I have found is a VER 2.2 MS-7851 ITX board (which, since it has the same board code, I assume it’s still a Z87I??). Would it just be a simple swap? Or would I have issue with doing so? Being incompatible etc? Or will I need to reinstall windows for the new board? sorry, for all the, probably silly questions, I, not too tech savvy whe it comes to PC’s and hardware.

I also have an I7 4790k and a GeForce GTX 1070 G1 will these both be compatible with the new board if I were to purchase it and swap it out?

Thank you for taking the time to read! :)

Edit: Upon further research, I believe the board I found for sale is in fact an H81I. But the question remains the same, regarding the swap and compatibility of my CPU and GPU. Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

If the board is the same make and model(all the way down to the chipset) not the PCB revision number, then yes you should be able to perform a swap. PCB revision numbers are usually there to signify a change n PCB component layout, not actually chipset or socket change.

If you look at an H81 chipset, you will need to reinstall your OS, mind you.

Can you please pass on the specs to your current system like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
