I built my PC 2 years ago With a micro atx motherboard, specifically gigabyte. The msi motherboard I recently purchased is an atx board that is the same chipset (z77) as my gigabyte one. Will I need to reinstall windows 7 when switching boards, I preferably don't want to but If I have to I will. I do not have a backup hard drive. I would highly appreciate it if you could tell me what I need to do prior to switching motherboards and what problems I may encounter.

Specs:
Intel i5 3570k
Gigabyte gaz77mxd3h lga 1155
msi 660 ti
750 watt psu
8gb ram
WD 2tb hdd

New board: MSI z77a-g45 lga 1155

Solution
If they are the same chipset then you will not need to reinstall windows, just load any different drivers.

Now if you got a System Builder license of Win 7 then Microsoft can de-activate your windows license due to the changed motherboard. Now many have luck telling them the motherboard died over the phone and get a code to reactivate it.
