Motherboard upgrade replacement to run Linux

I have a (circa 2006) HP Media Center PC m7757c with P5LP-LE Leonite GL8E motherboard and 500w psu. Intel Core 2 E6400 (2.13gHz cpu). Mobo is limited to 4gb of ram. Wondering if upgrading motherboard, cpu and ram is feasable. If so, what most current motherboard would be a good solution to upgrade, utilizing original case? Preferably Linux Compatable.

You'll need to replace the RAM too if you go to a current gen motherboard. The motherboard looks like it's an mATX so anything in that form factor will be great.

And don't forget the CPU!... You can upgrade to any MATX Intel or AMD motherboard (according to budget), CPU and DDR3 RAM.

Thanks Chicano! Some mobos are more linux friendly than others. Choosing the right one is key.

It must be due to drivers... so, if you can find the appropriate Linux drivers any mobo should do, but check here for a list of motherboards that are proven to work.

I would assume avoiding motherboards with UEFI BIOS should prevent Linux booting issues.

I was browsing the phoronix web site just last night. UEFI & gpu drivers makes for a double whammy but I just don't like windows, so the challenge is worth it to me.

Yeah.. besides if you read the google search results, there are solutions for the type of issue. So, you have to do some reading to be prepared... just in case. Or just go though the motherboard list at phoronix.com and get one of those that are proven to work with Linux.
