Motherboard vs gpu

Generally speaking it s more convenient to buy a new graphic card or motherboard and cou combo to play a modern game?

Example

I have a core duo 2 Intel e8200 power supply 600w 6 gb memory ddr3 gtx460

I struggle playng alien isolation

I can only spend to replace one thing and spend max 80-90£

Shall I go for gtx660 or keep my gtx460 but buy a new combo motherboard and cpu, (I don't know what)?

My cpu is 2.66

You won't get a good cpu/mobo combo for 90 quid anyway.

eg i5 4690k and asrock z97 extreme 4

The 660 is in tier 8 and 460 in tier 11. So its worth doing.
