motherboard wifi lag

I have a old 1366 LGA motherboard. I tried to play games on it but the ping killed me and it isnt my wifi its the motherboard or something thats just slow. I was wondering if i need to get anything to make it go faster

Your motherboard is not the cause of a high ping.

For any diagnosis, we out here would have to know the full specs of this system, to include software and your internet speed.

i7 980x
Nividia GTX 580
16gb ram
240 ssd
500 hdd

it isnt my wifi because when i got on my other computer the ping was at 38 but on this computer it is 145

And are these two systems in exactly the same place?
And do they have te exact same WiFi adapter?

no they are not my other one has a newer mother board diffrent everything and no i just use ethernet

So on one PC, you have a ping of 38. And this system is connected via ethernet cable.

And the other system gets a ping of 145. And this system is connected via WiFi.

hmm........Care to hazard a guess as to what the issue might be?

(of course, this is assuming you are checking this "ping" value at the exact same server)

no both were connected via ethernet i tested them at diffrent times

honestly i think it is the motherboard. the board has 2 ethernet ports but on of them is blocked by my oi shield

1. If they were both connected via ethernet, then why did you mention wifi?
Anyway....

2. Discover your router IP address.
Generally 192.168.1.1
From the commandline, ping to that.
That is the ONLY 'ping' value that matters.

In there, the "time<1ms" is my system talking to the router.

That is the round trip time between your PC (motherboard) and the router. Your motherboard is fine.
Anything outboard of your router...you have zero influence over.
Ping of 35, 145....you can't fix that.

No.
It is all the other devices in between you and the server you are reading this 'ping' from.

Ping is the time it takes for a signal to go round trip from your system, to the server, and back.
There are dozens of devices in the middle, that you have zero control over. And the farther away you are from the server, the higher the ping number.

For instance...look at these two speedtest.net results.

One has a ping of 27ms, the other has a ping of 102ms.
Exact same hardware, same router, done within minutes of each other.
What is the difference? Distance.
1 is 10 miles away, the other is 3000 miles away.

For the one on the right, I purposely selected one on the other end of the continent, just to show the difference the distance makes in a ping result.

But that is the physical location of the server. Obviously, I can't change that. Nor can I change my location. Unless I move.

i was just playing league of legends and the ping count was 75 - 145. if that is the case could I get a vpn or something that will make my location somewhere else ?

Completely unknown if a VPN would make it better.
Why?
Because the data STILL has to go all the way from the LoL server to your PC.
With a VPN, you're just asking someone else to move the data the same distance.

LoL has physical servers all over. Maybe 1 PC was connected to a different one.
