I made a noob move as I was upgrading my CPU I removed the heatsink took out my old i5 2400 and placed the i7 2600k on the socket placed the heatsink back in place with thermal paste and no display. So I removed the heatsink made a another noob move started the PC without it but luckily my cpu didn't fry, there wasn't any smoke since its intel it clocked itself down and the pc automatically shot off when the temperatures sky rocketed. I carefully removed the CPU and it was very hot then I looked at the socket on the motherboard and the pins were smashed I tried straightening it out another noob move *THE PINS WERE CHIPPED OFF AS I WAS USING STAPLE PINS* So now PC won't boot no signal so signs of life I'll have to replace my motherboard but is my i7 2600k completely destroyed? darn I do not want to buy another one I've heard stories that CPU's die in 10 seconds when started without heatsink but this is intel not AMD, please can anybody help what should I do?
