Guys i just got a really big question. A week ago i got my new computer i set up everything and then i started the system. In the buid i didnt use standoffs for my motherboard. The first day everything was fine but the second day i got horizontal lines on my monitor if i turned vsync off and in benchmarking program. I also noticed a lot of stutter and jumps when i played games like bioshock and league of legends but fraps showed i had 60 fps and even more with vsync off or on. Did i damage the board or graphics card or any component because i didnt use standoffs and how do i find out that non of the componentsa re hurt. Tomorrow im going to buy them but i just need to know i didnt damage something 🙁

Solution
Yes, you need the standoffs as otherwise the MB can contact the case, and this can short something out.

Your best bet is to rebuild the system with the standoffs, and see how it works at that point. You should also look at the MB and make sure no burnt spots, or discolorations. Short of that, there is really no way to tell.

Well being a fresh build You need to start with inserting the standoffs under the board then try it to see. chances are the GPU is find from the stand offs being left out but the CPU, Motherboard or Memory may have been hurt. The only real way to tell if there were arks behind the board is look at the back of board very carefully to be sure there are no black marks and bad soldier joints. Then run Memtest86+ to test the ram. If it errors either the settings are bad or the ram is having issues either with compatibility or just being bad. The CPU run Intel Burn Test and Prime 95 to stress the CPU to know if there are issues either with the settings or it being bad.

It may depend on the case... if you have the type that have the standoffs integrated to the case (preformed metal nipples), then you don't need to screw the brass standoffs... that may be why it works and the issues may be due to some other issue.

If you don't install brass standoffs to a regular case (with flat backplate), you can't install the I/O mobo shield, cables may touch the case, the PCIe Video card and expansion cards don't fit, etc... so your case may have integrated standoffs. What brand and model case is it?
