Hello good people,

Yesterday was a bad day. I've tried to to change the CPU thermal paste and I broke some pins on the motherboard chipset.
My CPU is an i5 4670k and it was an Asus z97 pro Gamer mobo.
My question is should I buy a z97 mobo or upgrade to the skylake with an Asus Maximus Hero VIII and i5 6600k and DDR4 G skill 2400 16 gb.
I have to mention that my CPU can't hold 4.4 overclock, only 4.2 and it holds back my 980 ti in games like BF4. I get 95% use of CPU and only 70 use of GPU, while in Witcher I get full use of the GPU.
I can't decide yet what to do, some help from you might be useful for me. Thanks.

The only reason is that my CPU bottlenecks my 980ti in certain games, that's what makes me think of an upgrade to Skylake.

A 980 ti can run well with any recent generation i5. What makes you think you have a bottleneck?

As the IPC is almost the same i don't think that you will see any difference between an 4670 and a 6600 (k or non k ). In the linked video someone says that the 5820k solved the problem. If that is the case you need a cpu with hyperthreading. As in games the six core has the same or worse performance than the i7.

So if you do upgrade you should look at a 6700 (k) or the 5820k.

I will just buy a motherboard and that's it. Windows said I can reuse my manufacturer windows, which means is best for the budget.
One more thing, I had Asus Z97 Pro gamer do you recommend anything better with a price about 200euro. I want a stable 4.4 oc.
Thanks.
