Hello All!

Well this is really going to be an off the hook question but I know you overclockers will know the answer. I lost my old Slot A system and am going for a new board and cpu but don't want to put out the cash right now for a -333 system + memory.

I have the old 133SDIMM's from my old system and want to get a cheaper old board and CPU that will still utilize these this memory. Whats my best bet on board for performance, speed, reliability and board accesories?

I would really like to wait for the new chips to hit next spring before jumping up to the DDR.

Can you all help me out here? I haven't been keeping up with technology as far as boards is concerned since getting married although I have been building my own systems for years. I feel quite stupid not knowing this stuff any longer. sigh.

What are you considering for a CPU ? AMD or Intel ?

I just upgraded my kids computer and did so with consideration of the fact I had 2x256MB PC133 DIMMS laying around. I decided to go with the Asus TUSL2-C mobo and an Intel PIII 1.2GHz Tualatin CPU (~$200 total) and used the spare RAM. I really haven't had time to do much with it other than put it together and so far it runs like a charm at 133MHz FSB. When I get some time I'll start OCing and fully expect to hit 1.4GHz (check out overclockers.com where you can search based on the CPU and view a variety of configurations and results 🙂

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

*** Whoa...I just figured out how to make my text <font color=blue> Red </font color=blue>, <font color=white> White </font color=white> and <font color=red> Blue </font color=red>...Cool !!! ***

I run AMD cpu's. I dislike Intel for the same reason I dislike Mr. Gates. They both want to dominate the entire market. Besides I think AMD's run better.

Thanks for your reply. I have switched gears and decided to upgrade.

The ECS Ks75a will support ddr + sdr ram. You can get that with a retail 1800 for about $140 at newegg.
