Motherboards for Xeon E3-1200v3 series CPU's

Hi, I'm looking into getting an Intel Xeon as they have 4th gen i7 performance without integrated graphics. I'm wondering what motherboards would work well with say a Xeon E3 1231v3?
Also trying to decide whether to go with the Z97 platform, not 100% sure whether Xeon CPU's can be overclocked?

Currently looking at the ASUS Maximus VII Ranger and the ASUS Z97-Pro-Gamer, do both these motherboards support the Xeon E3-1200v3 series?

This model of Xeon can be a very clever choice.
Almost the same performance of an i7 for much cheaper (not so true in some parts of Europe though).
The main differences are no OC and no integrated graphics.

Any 1150 socket mobo would work. Z97 is an overkill as you won't be able to OC. Also don't overpay for features you don't need, like SLI ready if you will only use one GPU ever.
The motherboard has 0 effect on performance.

Go for H97 chipset if you need RAID otherwise you are fine with any cheap but reliable H81, B85 chipset mobo.

Thanks for the quick answer, really helpful
Are there any mobo's you would recommend in particular for that CPU?
Was looking at the H97 version of the Asus Pro-Gamer but it only supports AMD Crossfire and I'm more of a NVIDIA kind of guy...

Do you plan on getting multiple GPUs? That's what SLI/crossfire (nvidia/amd) is for.

If you want to use just one discrete GPU any modern mobo is good enough.
Do you plan on using RAID or faster than 1600MHz RAM? If no, you don't even need a H97 chipset.

I do plan on having multiple graphics 3 NVIDIA all up,
definitely going to want support for ram up to at least 2400Mhz
I don't plan on using RAID
