I recently rewired my entire pc. Just cause I wouldnt be satisfied without some real cable management. When I started up my pc again the system rapidly turned on and off and shut down. Thinking it was the PSU, I replaced it but the system just turned on and then immediately off. After resetting the bios and stuff I gave up and replaced the motherboard. I started up the system and the pc rapidly turned on and off and ultimately kept going until the motherboard broke. I know the system worked cuz I tested it out outside of the pc case with just mobo, cpu, ram, and PSU. I got boot and everything. When I connected the pc case and graphics card the same problem happened again and Imma have to return this motherboard and PSU. I'm starting to wonder if it's the computer case. I doubt the graphics card would kill the system. BTW, the new parts I got was a B250 PC MATE by MSI and a 650W PSU from EVGA bronze+ rating. Can someone tell me if it might be the pc case thats shorted or something. It's a RoseWill Nighthawk 117. I'm thinking of getting a new case and I have to get a new motherboard anyways cuz my old one is dead and the replacement I bought.

For your motherboard, maybe there was something wrong with the ram (which can explain the turn on and off), or maybe you plugged in the PSU cables in the wrong place. There is a lot of possibilities that could've gone wrong. You said it worked when you tested it outside of the case, maybe its something wrong with the GPU? I highly doubt the case is the problem, though.

Shutting off after a couple seconds is indicative of a dead short. What happens is the voltage on one or more rails never stabilizes so the PSU shuts off because it never sees the power_good signal from the motherboard that would keep it running.

Try testing the old boards outside the case again--it's not that easy to kill a board (unless as mentioned you plugged power to the wrong place like PCIe power into EPS) and you have nothing to lose. If one of them works then look carefully for anything like errant standoffs that may be causing the short.

One board won't power on(h170 d3 plus), the other board powers on but has an LED representing that it doesn't register a CPU(B150 PC Mate). I'm very sure the LED wasn't like that before. Oh yeah, also no post from it.

I made sure I plugged in the PSU cables in the right position also. Oh yeah, and I also, the pc rapidly turns on and off in split seconds before stopping and shutting off for good. It doesn't turn on and shut off after a while. It's like its stuck in a loop of starting up and then being force shut down. Eventually something sets off or the motherboard just breaks and it stops.

Hmm, even if the BIOS is dead or corrupt it should respond to long presses of the power button even if it never posts. You've already replaced the PSU and Mobo. Do you have or can you borrow another CPU and stick of RAM?

BTW use onboard graphics while troubleshooting.

I don't have another stick of ram and I've tried another CPU, same problems for both mobos. The thing is, on my second attempt with a new PSU and MOBO, I tested it with cpu and ram outside of the case and I got to post with no problems. So I don't understand why putting it in the case would break it. I was over eager and put a GPU in too thinking it would be fine. I only added the case and GPU as factors though. I also checked for messed up standoffs. They all look fine to me.

Just wanna finish up this thread. In the end it was the PC case that was screwing up all the motherboards. I finally got sick of it and got a new motherboard (for the FOURTH time) and a PC case. After plugging everything in the computer started and booted into BIOS fine. There was probably a short in the case power button or something that caused it to turn on and off RAPIDLY. Disclamer though, if your having the same problem I HIGHLY doubt that you have the same problem. I only resorted to getting a new case because I had tried and tested everything else in the system all the way down to the fans. And even then I bought the new case knowing I could return it at any time if it wasn't the issue. If you have tested everything and have no idea what's wrong, this might be the issue! And then again, I'm only 14 so what the hay do I know!
